Pancakes on Passover

pancakehouse2

For brunch/lunch today I went with my dad and grandma to The Original Pancake House. I didn’t actually get pancakes, as it is still Passover, but I did get some delicious scrambled eggs, potatoes and tomatoes.

Though Winnipeg is not a large tourist location, we do have some special places that we are known for. The Pancake House is one of those places. It has been a Winnipeg landmark for over 50 years now and is still thriving. It’s a popular spot for families, lunch meetings and special occasions. It is also a must visit stop for tourists and visiting ex-Winnipeggers! Though other locations have opened throughout the years, the decor has hardly changed at the very first location!

All the food, though not always the healthiest, is still the best and a comfort food to many. They are most famous for their oven-baked giant apple pancake topped with cinnamon-sugar glaze!

Of course, The Pancake House is near and dear to me because it is a Winnipeg landmark, but it is even more special to me because it just so happens that it was opened by my Grandfather Monty and his brother my Great-Uncle Wally. :)

A lot of people in my family have taken their turns working there, of course my Grandpa Monty and and Great-Uncle Wally did, but so did my Great Grandfather, after he retired, my dad and even I worked there one summer :)
And The Pancake House still remains in the family to this day.

If you are ever in Winnipeg, definitely pay a visit to The Original Pancake House!

This morning I ended up going for a 3 mile run on the dreadmilll. It was not fun, but I pushed through. There was definitely some hip pain afterwards, so I think when I get back to NYC I may just have to look into seeing a physiotherapist. I’m going to try and keep pushing out short runs. But…and it pains me to say this… I may have to back out of the half marathon. As much as I want to run it, I know it is not worth it to seriously injure myself. Sometimes you just have to know when to PUSH and when to hold back.

“And it’s so hard to do. And so easy to say. But sometimes, Sometimes you just have to walk away…Walk away” – Ben Harper

Are there any neat things in your families’ history?

Ok here is mine!! haha.. My great great grandmother (I think) was a maid for the Von Trapp family from the Sound of Music!! haha

Also when I went to Austria, I found out that I was related to lots of the people who were statues… Andres Hofer etc. I thought that was pretty cool!! :)

    Have a great day!

The pancake house sounds awesome! And the apple pancake looks delish. Interesting things in my family history? Lots of random little things. My grandpa used to be an ambassador; my grandma was one of the last people to spend time in a tuberculosis sanatorium. I love random little details like this!
Happy Passover; have a great weekend!
